First Round Table on Humanitarian Cooperation for the Gaza Crisis: Advancing Global Solidarity and Humanitarian Action
On 3 October 2024, the Global Peace Summit (GPS) convened the “First Round Table on Humanitarian Cooperation for the Gaza Crisis” in Islamabad, bringing together humanitarian experts, peace advocates, policymakers, academics, and civil society representatives to deliberate on one of the most pressing humanitarian emergencies of the contemporary era. Chaired by GPS Founder Shaikh Mahmud bin Ilyas, the round table served as a platform for informed dialogue, international cooperation, and collective reflection on the devastating human consequences of the ongoing crisis in Gaza.
The discussions focused on the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire, enhanced humanitarian assistance, and coordinated international action to alleviate civilian suffering. Experts and speakers examined the humanitarian, legal, economic, and social dimensions of the crisis, highlighting the severe challenges faced by affected communities. Detailed presentations addressed the destruction of critical infrastructure, the collapse of healthcare services, the displacement of civilian populations, and the broader implications of prolonged conflict on regional stability and human security. Participants emphasized the importance of upholding international humanitarian principles, protecting civilian lives, and ensuring unhindered access to essential aid and medical support.
The round table featured valuable contributions from internationally recognized experts, including Dr. Yousif Fouzi, Harry Sholy, David Swanson, and other distinguished participants, whose insights enriched the dialogue and reinforced the urgency of global engagement. The session concluded with a strong call for unified international efforts, sustained humanitarian cooperation, and continued advocacy aimed at promoting peace, protecting human dignity, and supporting long-term solutions to the crisis. Through this initiative, the Global Peace Summit reaffirmed its commitment to fostering constructive dialogue and mobilizing collective action in response to challenges affecting vulnerable populations around the world.
