Global Peace Summit 2020: Advancing Global Solidarity Through Virtual Dialogue and Peacebuilding
The Global Peace Summit 2020 was held virtually on 19 May 2020 in response to the global COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the unprecedented challenges posed by worldwide lockdowns and travel restrictions, the summit successfully brought together participants from different countries through a digital platform, ensuring the continuation of meaningful dialogue on peace, humanitarian cooperation, and global solidarity. The event demonstrated the resilience of international engagement and the importance of maintaining conversations that promote understanding and collaboration during times of crisis.
The summit served as a platform for youth leaders, activists, scholars, and civil society representatives to exchange perspectives on contemporary humanitarian challenges and the collective responsibility of individuals and institutions in fostering peace. Discussions highlighted the importance of empathy, intercultural understanding, social cohesion, and inclusive leadership in addressing global issues, while emphasizing the role of young people as catalysts for positive change and advocates for a more peaceful and equitable world.
Despite being organized entirely online, the conference attracted the participation and endorsement of prominent activists and internationally recognized figures, including Dr. Ameena Ali, Laila Rahhal El Aftani, Farah Koutteineh, Hassan Mfouakie, and many others who strongly supported the initiative and its mission. Their contributions enriched the discussions and reinforced the summit’s commitment to advancing peace, human dignity, and international cooperation, further establishing the GPS as a growing platform for dialogue, awareness, and collective action toward a more harmonious future.
