Qatar has reiterated its commitment to safeguarding civilians in armed conflicts, highlighting this as one of its top priorities at the national, regional, and international levels. This message was delivered by Qatar’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, H.E. Sheikha Alya bint Ahmed Al Thani, during an Open Debate on the Protection of Civilians in Armed Conflict at the UN Security Council in New York.
Sheikha Alya emphasized that Qatar has implemented a clear strategy focused on conflict prevention, reduction, and mitigation. Qatar’s efforts also extend to mediation and peace-building initiatives, firmly rooted in the principles of international law and humanitarian law, including the Four Geneva Conventions and their Additional Protocols, which form part of Qatar’s national legislation.
She also highlighted the increasing number of conflicts worldwide, noting their evolving nature and the devastating humanitarian toll on civilians, particularly women and children.
